Breathwork is an effective and accessible way of building up resilience. You can consciously use your breathing to let go of worries and fears, to influence the autonomic nervous system and to bring your body into a state of relaxation.
There are various forms of breathwork, each with its own applications and assets: deep abdominal breathing, coherent breathing, pranayama, holotropic breathwork,… With the more active techniques, it is the intensity of breathing that ensures results. However, because of the intensity, there are also contra-indications linked to these techniques.
Whenever you do active breathwork, you get out of your head in the instant and sink into your body. More importantly, by regularly doing this sort of breathwork you create new neurological connections and in doing so you calm your overactive nervous system. Your Frik Unik learns that you are safe. So in moments of tension or during confrontations with certain triggers, you will not only be better able to react calmly. You will also notice that you will generally experience more inner peace and confidence.
With Revelation Breathwork® the intense focus on your breathing establishes a bridge from your head to your body through which you experience a deep peace. This form of mediative bodywork is practiced lying down on a yoga mat or blanket. A standard session lasts for about 75 minutes and is split up into three parts: a short introduction to the three-step active breathing technique, an active breathing part and a peace and integration part. Throughout the session, you’ll be accompanied by the coach and the beat and energy of the music.
During the active breathing part, you’ll breathe quicker (hyper) and deeper through your mouth (ventilate) in a conscious and controlled manner. This ‘disproportional breathing’ (medical term) simulates what occurs in your body in the event of a stress reaction. And this is exactly what your Frik Unik does with you. It can trigger certain bodily sensations (tingling, shivers, light-headedness,…) and also entails contra-indications for participation. These sensations recover once you return to breathing ‘normally’.
By triggering and consciously living through this kind of stress reaction in a safe setting, your Frik Unik learns that you are safe and that everything is under control, even if it doesn’t appear to be the case.
